Department of the Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke unveiled his new plan to protect sage grouse this week, which will give Western states more flexibility for managing the birds habitat, and will help encourage economic growth. Zinke believes the federal government and the states can work together to protect sage grouse and its habitat while not affecting the economy and job creation. Zinke said he has received complaints from several Western governors that the Obama administration ignored or minimized their concerns as the 2015 sage-grouse plan was developed. Zinke says the new plan is intended to provide flexibility to states instead of forcing them to implement a “one-size-fits-all solution”. Zinke’s plan is available here. Pictured: Ryan Zinke.
