YVMC Joins Program To Limit Opioids In ER

Eight Colorado hospitals including Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat are now part of a pilot program to cut down on the amount of opioids used in their emergency rooms.  Participants of the program will use alternatives to opioid medications whenever possible to treat acute pain in the emergency departments, and will gather data to gauge the effectiveness of these treatments. All of the alternative drugs that will be offered through the program will be non-addictive. The goal of the study is to limit patients’ exposure to addictive opioid medications, while at the same time improving pain management in emergency departments
