Wyoming law enforcement learned more about gangs this month during the 8th Annual Western States Gang Conference. Gang experts from across the country were at the conference to provide instruction on a wide range of gang related issues. Police from across the state including the Rock Springs and Green River Police Departments and the Sweetwater County Sheriffs Office all attended the seminar. The FBI estimates that there are more than 30,000 active gangs in the U.S. with 850,000 members. The goal of the conference was to provide information to law enforcement that leads to the apprehension and prosecution of gang members, and to divert these individuals into positive and effective community programs.
