The Wyoming Highway Patrol will be participating in the national Move Over safety campaign this weekend, in an effort to bring awareness to the dangers first responders face in the state. Since 2008, nearly 2,000 crashes have occurred in Wyoming that involved a first responder or roadway service vehicle. Since the beginning of last year, a total of 12 Wyoming Highway Patrol vehicles have been struck while parked on the side of a road. Wyoming law requires drivers to move over one lane, or slow down significantly, whenever an authorized emergency vehicle with its lights on is parked on the side of a roadway. Drivers caught violating the state’s move over law will be subjected to a $220 fine.
