Crews will inspect and perform scheduled maintenance next week, on The Willow Creek Dam at Steamboat Lake. The inspection is part of the Colorado Division of Water Resource’s “Dam Safety Program”. The park will be open to all activities. Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials however, are asking visitors to avoid Sage Flats, and areas near the dam while work is in progress. There will also be heavy machinery in the area so guests are advised to use caution and avoid closed areas. Inspection and maintenance starts Friday September 16th and will last through Thursday the 22nd. The Willow Creek Dam is considered a “high-hazard” dam, meaning that if it failed, it could result in the loss of life.
