Moffat County may be just one county on the Western Slope that could benefit from a decision by the EPA’s Supplemental Environment Project Selection Committee in Colorado. The committee has decided to spend more of its money in grants for the Western Slope. A supplemental environmental project is typically part of a settlement voluntarily agreed upon, that allows the violator to partake in an environmental improvement project in place of mitigation. For the most part, the grants used to pay for those projects were going to the Front Range, but that seems to be changing. Moffat County Natural Resources Director Jeff Comstock will write a letter to the committee stating the County’s support for the decision.
