Yesterday, United States Department of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Krysta Harden announced that the USDA is now offering “farm ownership micro loans”. These micro loans are designed to help beginning and underserved farmers, midsized farming operations, and US veterans who are looking for careers in farming. The USDA has determined that one of the biggest challenges to growing and operating a farm is access to land. This program is designed to make it easier for farmers to get access to the land that they need to establish a farm, or improve a farm on their property. Loans will also be available to farmers that are looking for help with a building purchase or soil and water conservation improvements.
