An unfounded report of an attempted kidnapping led to a brief lockdown of Rock Springs area schools yesterday. In a joint press release the Rock Springs Police Department and the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office said officers and deputies were dispatched to the area of the White Mountain Library and Clearview Acres yesterday afternoon to investigate a report of an attempted kidnapping. Law enforcement converged on the area within minutes, but were unable to locate the suspect or suspects. Out of concern for the safety of students at area schools, officers requested that the schools lock down until the situation could be resolved. The lockdown lasted about 45 minutes before being lifted. County detectives interviewed the alleged victim and determined that the incident was unfounded. Law enforcement now says at no time was there any danger to the public, and police are no longer seeking any suspects in the case.
