Smoke may still be visible from a wildfire that started Monday night southeast of Rifle. The fire was the result of a controlled burn on private property that flared up, threatening a home and barn and burning approximately 22 acres of land. Crews were able to save both buildings. As of Tuesday morning, the fire was 80% contained, with full containment anticipated by the end of the day. This is the second fire to occur in the same area in the last 72 hours. A Friday fire generated enough smoke to close I-70 for a period of time, due to poor visibility. Photos of Mondays fire courtesy of the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, click to enlarge.
