A semi hauling a tanker of hot asphalt crashed Tuesday morning on CO 131 near Phippsburg. 52-year-old Ronald Bell from Parachute was driving the semi when the rear tires of the trailer went off the highway, causing the entire unit to be pulled off the road and rolled onto its side. Fortunately the asphalt was contained inside the tanker. Bell was uninjured. He was cited for careless driving. The Colorado Department of Transportation and the asphalt company are working to remove the asphalt from the tanker before righting the unit. Photo of the accident courtesy of Colorado State Patrol.
