The large amounts of snow this winter could result in area flooding. In fact, on Monday this week the Elk River in Routt County had record-setting flows, and the Yampa River near Steamboat was flowing well above normal for this time of year. Due to increased flood risk, it may be time to consider flood insurance. Generally speaking there is a 30 day wait period between the date of purchase and when the policy will take effect, so it’s important to buy a policy proactively before any damage occurs.
