With tax season on the horizon, the Internal Revenue Service is reminding people living in rural communities that they may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit. The Earned Income Tax Credit is a tax credit for working people who make less than $53,500 a year and meet certain eligibility requirements. The refundable tax credit allows those who qualify to pay little to no federal income tax, and in certain cases they may receive a tax refund. Working families are eligible for Earned Income Tax Credit refunds up to $6,000 with single individuals eligible for up to $500. Those interested can find out if they qualify for the credit by utilizing the Earned Income Tax Credit Assistant feature on the IRS website. For additional information on the program click here.
