A tanker caught fire yesterday evening, closing westbound Interstate 70 near Gypsum for about an hour. Nobody was injured in the blaze. Just after 5 yesterday, 43-year-old Vincent Vanputten, of Commerce City, was driving a tractor-trailer loaded with gasoline, when the trailer blew a tire and caught fire. Vanputten was able to stop the truck on the shoulder and get out. The Gypsum and Eagle fire protection districts responded to the scene and contained the fire. Westbound traffic was diverted to Highway 6 at Gypsum for a little over an hour. Eastbound I-70 was closed briefly, as well, while the fire was contained.
