Those two Native American metal sculptures that have been missing for about two weeks from the KOA Campground in Craig, were more than likely destroyed at the Moffat County landfill. Craig Police Chief Jerry DeLong says the new owners of the KOA were cleaning up the property and the décor and they got rid of the statues on a trash dumpster. DeLong thinks the dumpster was then taken to a landfill and everything on it was probably destroyed. The confusion came with new campground owner Chad Hodnefield told Kathy Shea that the sculptures were probably taken, so that her feelings wouldn’t be hurt. Her late husband had made the sculptures. But the sculptures were actually sent to the dump. Hodnefield says he didn’t realize the value of the artwork and he regrets it all happened. The Craig Police Department says no crime was committed and no charges will be filed.
