Three people died and four others were injured around 3:30 Friday morning, when an SUV collided with a bear on I-70 near Rifle. The collision, which resulted in the closure of the highway for a period of time, sent the vehicle off the road where it rolled multiple times. Some of the passengers were ejected during the incident. Two of the passengers, who have been identified as 7 year-old Kimberly Hernandez and her grandfather, 63-year-old Eugenio Hernandez Altamirano, were pronounced dead on the scene. Four others were transported to the hospital with serious or critical injuries. 15-year-old Brizeyda Hernandez was later pronounced dead at the hospital in Rifle. The driver of the vehicle was also transported with unknown injuries. All in the vehicle were from the same family and are believed to be from Colorado.
