Routt County Sheriff’s officers responded to a suspicious item yesterday in the Buffalo Pass area near the Dry Lakes Campground. A hiker in the area called police after finding a square package containing wires, that looked like it could be a bomb. Upon arriving at the scene, Routt County Deputies confirmed the hiker’s description and called in the Jefferson County Bomb Squad for assistance. The Bomb Squad determined the device was not an explosive and was likely placed as a hoax. No other details are being released at this time. The incident is under investigation by the Routt County Sheriff’s office, US Forest Service and the FBI.
