Student Removed After Post References School Shooting

An unidentified student at Steamboat Springs High School was taken out of school Friday afternoon after they made a post on social media, referencing a school shooting. Principal Kevin Taulman sent an email to parents which stated that students were the ones responsible for bringing the post to the attention of High School staff. According to the email, police were immediately brought in and were quickly able to identify the student responsible. The school district and police department are working together to conduct a thorough threat assessment. Taulman says that while the post was not a direct threat, the district is taking it very seriously. The responsible party faces school disciplinary action, but may also face prosecution through the police department, even though the post may have been intended as a prank or a hoax. Taulman thanked the students who spoke up about the social media post.
