The Steamboat Springs fire department responded to a fire on the roof of the Edgemont Condominiums around 11 Friday night. Upon their arrival a fire crew evacuated everyone from the Edgemont while other firefighters headed to the roof of the building. The location of the fire was in a mechanical chase, which is a hollow section where heating, air conditioning, electrical and other systems go into the building. The mechanical chase was opened and firefighters began attacking the blaze with fire extinguishers, while others accessed the chase from inside the building. Residents of the Edgemont were directed to the lobby of the nearby Bear Claw Condominium. Once the fired was determined to be out, they were allowed to return to their units in the Edgemont to collect necessary items. No civilians or rirefighters were hurt during this incident which lasted about 2 hours. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
