It’s been announced that the Steamboat Springs Ski Resort is being sold to the owners of Aspen Mountain. Aspen Skiing Company, in conjunction with KSL Capital Partners, finalized an agreement this week to purchase Intrawest Holdings for $1.5 billion. Along with the Steamboat Ski area, the sale will include the Winter Park Ski area, as well as a resort in West Virginia, and two in Canada. The sale is expected to be finalized by the beginning of October. According to Intrawest’s CEO Thomas Marano, Aspen Skiing Company will bring additional financial resources to the area, along with their passion for mountain communities like Steamboat. The new owners will continue to honor the season passes currently on sale for the 2017, 2018 Steamboat ski season. This will be the fifth time the Steamboat Resort has changed hands, since it opened in 1963.
