Steamboat Continues To Open And Close Trails

SteamboatWith hiking conditions changing rapidly in the area, The City of Steamboat is continuing to close and open trails based on the circumstances. The city recently announced that several lower elevation trails on Emerald Mountain are now open for recreation. They also announced that the Cow Creek Trail heads will be closed through Thursday to allow the city to replace several culverts along county road 45.  Steamboat is asking that the public only use trails that have been authorized by the city for recreation. You are also asked to stay off wet and muddy trails. If mud is sticking to your shoes tires or animals then these trails should be avoided. A full lists of the Emerald Mountain trails that are open, and a synopsis of the construction taking place on CR 45 is below.

Several lower elevation trails on Emerald Mountain are now open, including, Bluffs Loop, Lupine, Ricky’s Ridge, Gas Line, Mile Run, Morning Gloria, Quarry Mountain and NPR below the Blackmere intersection. Visit the City of Steamboat Springs website for up-to-date trail information, and help prevent resource damage by respecting the closures that remain in effect.

COW CREEK TRAILHEADS CLOSED: In an effort to repair several washed-out culverts on CR 45/Cow Creek, the road is currently closed to ALL motorized and recreational traffic. We ask that mountain bikers and hikers DO NOT ride or walk past the construction barricades to access the trails Monday, May 23rd through Thursday, May 26th from 7 AM to 4 PM. Crews are working to get the road open from the North to the Ridge Trailhead, and from the South to the Beall Trailhead, prior to the weekend. For your safety, and the safety of the construction crews, please respect these closures and refrain from using the trails/trailheads at this time.
