Favorable weather conditions this week may allow crews to ignite the remaining slash piles on Emerald Mountain. The piles could be lit as early as wednesday. The burns were expected to start in early November, however, conditions changed so crews had to wait. If the piles are lit, the public should expect to see smoke through tomorrow. The burns will take place in the Stairway to Heaven trail area, so the public is being asked to avoid this area during the operation. Once the burns conclude, this will complete the disposal of remaining piles on Emerald Mountain which were assembled during the tree removal project. Those with questions on the burns can call 879-7170.
