Highway 40 was completely closed for about half an hour Monday morning near the base of Rabbit Ears Pass, after a semi trailer caught fire. Traffic was able to move through the area after the highway was partially re-opened just before 7,with the entire highway being fully re-opened around 8. The cause of the fire was determined to have been overheated brakes, resulting in the tires and trailer catching fire. The driver was able to detach the tractor from the trailer before emergency crews arrived on the scene. According to Steamboat Fire Chief Mel Stewart, it took crews around an hour to extinguish the blaze. Photos of the fire courtesy of Steamboat Fire and Rescue, click to enlarge.
