A semi rolled over on the west side of Rabbit Ears Pass yesterday, closing the pass for several hours. According to the Colorado State Patrol, the semi was hauling a load of hazardous liquid, which spilled when the tank ruptured during the roll. The accident happened near the runaway truck ramp, about 7 miles east of Steamboat. The pass was closed from the base of the east side of the pass, to the base of the west side. Local, state, and federal environmental and health agencies were notified of the spill. The driver of the semi, 59-year old Nolan Hebert of Louisiana, was seriously injured in the crash. He was extricated from the cab and taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
