Seat Belt Use In Rural Areas Still An Issue

Lack of seat-belt use continues to be an issue in rural Colorado.  Colorado law enforcement issued 1,175 citations for unbuckled passengers and drivers during the most recent rural Click it or Ticket seat-belt enforcement campaign, a slight increase from the 1,116 citations issued during the same enforcement period last year. 65 drivers were issued tickets this year for an unbuckled child in the vehicle.  In 2015, seat belts saved an estimated 13,941 lives nationwide, including 200 in Colorado. Last year, 180 unbuckled drivers and passengers were killed in Colorado, accounting for nearly half of all the passenger vehicle traffic fatalities. For more information about Colorado seat-belt laws, click here.
