Certain trails in the Emerald Mountain Special Recreation Area near Steamboat have been closed for the season by the Bureau of Land Management. Certain Emerald Mountain trails are closed seasonally to avoid disturbing area wildlife. All areas south of Ridge Trail, including Beall Trail and Kemry Draw are now closed to all forms of entry until June 30th. While these areas are closed annually, there are numerous people who violate the closure every year. These violations could have significant impact on elk and other wildlife in the area, so anyone found on the closed trails will be subject to a $175 fine. Those looking to recreate on Emerald Mountain can still use Ridge, Rotary, and Wild Rose trail as they remain open all year.
