Scammers Targeting South Central Wyoming

The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office is warning south central Wyoming residents of two scams circulating around the area. Residents are receiving telephone calls from scammers who claim to be soliciting donations on behalf of local law enforcement. The calls are from Arkansas area code. According to Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell, no local law enforcement agencies are currently soliciting funds, the scammers are simply trying to acquire credit card information. The second scam involves callers using an 800 number, who claim to be a Verizon representative. The callers are telling victims that their phone is in jeopardy, and request personal and financial information in order to solve the fictitious problem. Officials want to stress that you should never give out personal or financial information during calls of this nature. For more information on these and other fraud schemes, click here.
