The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a scam targeting south-central Wyoming residents. The callers, who pretend to be Dish Network representatives, are targeting Dish Network users in the area. The scammers use spoofed or masked caller identification numbers to make it appear the calls are genuine. The target is told their software needs to be updated and are asked for credit card information to pay for the upgrade. These callers have no connection to Dish Network. Their sole objective is to obtain credit card information. Anyone who receives a call of this nature should hang up and call Dish Network to determine if the call is genuine. The sheriff’s office is also asking the public to relay this information to family members or friends who are seniors, as they are often specifically targeted and may be the last to know about scams of this nature.
