Scammer Impersonating Law Enforcement

The Carbon County Sheriff’s are warning of a new scam, where someone is calling victims, claiming to be an employee at the Sheriff’s office. The scammer is calling targets claiming he is Lieutenant Williams and that the individual has a warrant out for their arrest for failing to appear for jury duty. The fictitious officer then tells the victim they can pay $1,500 to avoid arrest. Williams will then instruct the target to purchase a green dot credit card for $1,500 and to give him the number on the card. At least one person has fallen victim, this situation is under investigation. You should know that government entities will ever call to notify a person that there is a warrant out for their arrest that they have to pay to avoid incarceration. If you receive a call of this nature, it should be reported immediately to local law enforcement.
