River Road in Steamboat is closed to through traffic in the canyon section between Brooklyn neighborhood and Tree Haus due to a minor rockfall. The City is asking that all traffic including bike and pedestrian traffic avoid River Road until further notice. Public Works staff will monitor the slope and reopen the roadway when conditions allow. The rockfall is likely due to the last few days of heavy rain falling on already saturated soils. According to the City of Steamboat Springs $75,000 has been budgeted for 2017 to evaluate and perform rock scaling and stabilization along this stretch of roadway. Costs to deal with the current rock fall are not immediately available.
