The Rio Blanco County Sheriff was injured in an assault yesterday that sent him to the hospital. Sheriff Si Woodruff was attempting to take an unidentified man into custody in the parking lot of Pioneers Hospital in Meeker. The man reportedly assaulted Woodruff, who was admitted to Pioneers shortly after the incident. It’s not clear how serious the injuries were, however, a press release says Woodruff was transferred to another undisclosed hospital for further treatment. Meeker Police Chief Bob Harvey was there assisting with the arrest. Harvey was not injured, and was able to take the suspect into custody. He is now being held in the Rio Blanco County Jail. The incident is still under investigation, and the Sheriff’s Office says they will release more information later today.
