UPDATE: Rabbit Ears Closed For 7 Hours Due To Head-on Crash


Rabbit Ears Pass was closed in both directions earlier today due to an accident that occurred between a tractor-trailer and pickup just after 5 this morning. The two drivers were the only people involved in the incident. . It took rescue crews approximately 2 and half hours to remove the driver of the pickup from his vehicle in what a representative from the Colorado State Patrol called one of the most difficult extrications of his career. Once removed, the driver was transported from the scene by helicopter to a Denver Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the semi sustained only minor injuries.  A hazmat team was on location earlier today to help clean up the accident. The highway was closed for approximately 7 hours.
