Firefighters will be conducting prescribed burns over the coming weeks in Eagle, Garfield and Rio Blanco County. Crews plan to burn 1,200-acres 11 miles northwest of Rifle, 300-aces northwest of Gypsum, 400-acres near Eagle, 1,200 acres near El Jebel and an undisclosed amount of acreage 15 miles southeast of Rangely. Fire managers have developed a prescribed fire plan and obtained smoke permits from the state for each of the planned burns. Smoke from these fires may be visible while the burns occur.
