Fire fighters will be conducting a prescribed burn near Meeker over the next several weeks. The 313-acre Pinto Gulch Prescribed Fire, 32 miles west of Meeker, will be ignited pending favorable wind and weather conditions. The burn is planned in sagebrush, pinion pine, and juniper, near the intersection of Rio Blanco County roads 122 and 24X, in the Pinto Mesa area. The burn will reduce the potential for large-scale wildfires by eliminating live and dead tree accumulation, which will help promote lower intensity wildfires. Once the fire is ignited, the burn is expected to last two to three days. Smoke will be visible in the area during the burn. For more information on the prescribed fire, call 878-3818.
