This week has been declared Flood Safety and Wildfire Awareness week in Colorado by Governor John Hickenlooper. This is a good time for residents to learn about flood and wildfire risks in Colorado, and to make a plan on what to do in the event that a fire or flood occurs. 64 counties in Colorado and more than 250 cities and towns with a population of over 250 thousand people located in flood-prone areas. Since the year 2000, floods have killed more than 400 people and have caused billions of dollars in damage to Colorado property. Fires cause issues in the state as well.
