The City of Steamboat is working on a plan to improve the health and resiliency of the Yampa River. The Yampa River Health Assessment Stream Flow Management Plan will identify target flows for the river and will establish ways to maintain these targets in times of drought, while continuing to meet the needs of the community. The plan will focus on the Yampa River between the Chuck Lewis State Wildlife Area to the City of Steamboat Waste Water Treatment Facility, but will also involve users both up and down stream. The plan will be based on a comprehensive assessment of river health using best available data, but will not address river user conflicts associated with tubing and rafting. As the public is a critical component in the formation and implementation of the plan, public meetings will be held to gather input. One of those meetings will take place in November with other being held in February of next year. For additional information on the Yampa River Health Assessment, click here.
