The Beaver Creek Fire, 24 miles Northwest of Walden, continues to move slowly into the Mount Zirkel Wilderness. Based on infrared data, the fire has burned 172 acres within the Wilderness. Protecting structures and preparing them to avoid being burned remains a high priority as crews also continue to patrol around residences, looking for and extinguishing any hot spots. 148 firefighters are fighting the fire that has so far burned 13,642 acres and is only 5% Contained. The fire is burning in heavy beetle killed timber. Recent rains in the past week have slightly reduced the intensity of the fire although hotter, drier conditions will return to the fire area over next several days.
