A report that evaluated the possibility of instituting a transit system in Craig has been released. LSC Consultants of Denver put together the transit report for the City. The report combined public surveys and data to determine if public transportation would benefit Craig residents. The report recommends a two phase bus service, with one moving people around Craig and another that would run twice a day between Craig and Steamboat. The second bus would operate in addition to the Steamboat Springs Transit Bus, which travels between Steamboat and Craig once in the morning and once in the evening. A new transit system would also require a vehicle maintenance and storage facility to accommodate bus storage as well as provide administration office space. LSC Consultants estimates a Transit System would cost the city a little over $400 thousand a year to operate, with 41,000 riders a year expected to take advantage of the service.
