One Killed In Vehicle Crash Between Meeker and Rangely

COLO-STATE-PATROL-3001On Saturday, March 14 at about 4:30 AM, Rio Blanco Communications Center received a call of a possible brush fire on Colorado Highway 64, approximately 28 miles west of Meeker.  A second call was received later and it was determined that a motor vehicle was on fire at that location. The Rangely Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. Upon doing so, the remains of one body were found in the cab of the vehicle.  Through further investigation, it was found that a red 1994 GMC pickup truck had traveled off the left side of the roadway and down a steep embankment, collided with an opposing embankment and caught fire.  Although officials and family members believe they know the identity of the victim, the forensic tests are not completed.  As that is the case, Wild West Radio News has decided not to release the name of the presumed victim.
