The woman who died in a rafting accident yesterday on the Upper Colorado River in Eagle County has been identified as 32-year-old Elyssa Wenrich McCreight of Edwards. McCreight was rafting the river when the boat she was on high centered on a rock near a large rapid known as the “Bone-yard Rapid”. While attempting to swim from the raft, she became trapped in the river. Rescue crews responded and were able to remove McCreight from the river by 5 yesterday afternoon. Efforts to revive her using CPR were unsuccessful. This is a good reminder to use caution while out recreating on Colorado waterways, anytime of the year, but especially during high spring run off. It’s important to be prepared and to always use appropriate safety equipment. For additional rafting safety tips, click here.
