NW Colorado Lands May Be Protected From BLM

BLM-entering-public-land-30A bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives that would protect land in Jackson, Mesa and Delta counties from being declared as wilderness area by the Bureau of Land Management. The Western Colorado Wilderness Study Area Release Act would take the North Sands Hills Instant Study Area in Jackson County, the Dominguez Canyon Wilderness Study Area in Mesa and Delta Counties, and the Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness Study Area in Mesa County out of control of the BLM. According to Colorado US Representative Scott Tipton, who sponsored the bill, the BLM cannot release this land from protection without an act of congress. Tipton says, that when it comes to federal land management he supports a balanced approach that includes respecting the environment while continuing to properly utilize our natural resources.
