Moffat-County-School-DistriThe selection of a new Moffat County School Superintendent got a little closer this week following semi-finalists interviews. On Tuesday the school board named three finalists for the Superintendent position. They include; Brent Curtice, who is currently the “Assistant Superintendent of the Moffat County School District”; Gregory Fromm, an “Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services” of the “Coachella Valley School District” in California and Jinger Haberer, currently the “Director of Student Achievement for Public Schools” in Aurora, Colorado. The School Board will hold final interviews next week, then determine who will replace outgoing Superintendent Joe Patrone, who will end his tenure at the end of this school year. In a release to Wild West Radio News the school board presented an overview of all three candidates, their experience, and qualifications for the position.

Moffat County Wrestling Looks Back And Moves Forward Tonight

BULLDOGSMoffat County Wrestling hosts a triangular tonight with Coal Ridge and Battle Mountain, it’ll be the final opportunity to see the bulldog wrestlers in action at home this season as they prepare for the Regional Wrestling Tournament next weekend at Middle Park High School in Granby. In addition to 3 duals the program will include a fundraiser to help the family of former Moffat County wrestler, Kortney Lake, who claimed a state championship in 1999. Lake continued his passion for the sport in college becoming an All American at Adams State. Although he was diagnosed with cancer, Lake continued to wrestle. He lost his battle to the disease in 2005, leaving behind a wife and young son. Kortney Lake t-shirts, that were going to be sold as a fund raiser tonight, were all purchased earlier today, but donations will still be accepted during tonight’s triangular, with all proceeds benefiting his family. Tonight is also “senior night” for the wrestlers who will compete for the final time at Moffat County High School. Plus, long time Moffat County wrestling Coach Roman Gutierrez, a former All American in College, will be honored and recognized for his thirty one years of leading Moffat County Wrestling teams to multiple state championships and national rankings. Wrestling starts this afternoon at 5 at Moffat County High School.

National Wear Red Day

You may see a lot of red today, as people participate in the American Heart Association’s 11th annual “National Wear Red Day”.  In 2003, the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute took action against a disease that was claiming the lives of nearly half a million American women each year – a disease that many women weren’t paying attention to.  Stemming from that action, National Wear Red Day was born. It’s held on the first Friday in February every year to raise awareness about heart disease being the Number 1 killer of women.  You can get involved by wearing red.  And you can get more information about Wear Red Day and heart disease by following THIS LINK.
