The Capital Christmas Tree celebration in Meeker attracted a huge on Saturday.  The tree which was cut down  with great ceremony from the White River National Forest, about 40 miles from Meeker, was on display during yesterdays celebration.  Ute Indian dancers and tribal representatives were on hand to express their connection to nature and the tree itself.  The tree, which will be pulled by a  semi-tractor driven by former U.S> Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, will begin it’s trip to Washington D.C. Tuesday, with its first stop in Rangely, where residents can see it at the Ball fields on River Road and Bell from 9 to 11.  From there it will move on to Craig, where it can be viewed between Kim & Go East and the fairgrounds on Highway 40 from 1:30 to 2:30.  Then the tree will be driven to Howelson Rodeo Grounds in Steamboat, where it will be can been seen between 6 and 8.  Pictures from the Meeker Capital Christmas Tree celebration can be seen in the photo gallery above.

We returned to Mountain Standard Time today, which gave everyone an extra hour of sleep overnight.  Be sure to adjust you clocks back one hour if you have not already done so.   The annual change from daylight saving time to standard time is also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.  Not only should you to change the battery when it’s chirping or when the time changes, you also need to test your smoke alarm once a month. That means climb up there and push that little red button until you hear the beep, just to make sure it’s working properly.  You can get the correct time by calling our Time, Temp and Weather line at 824-1918.
