On This Day In History – December 2nd 1949

Gene Autry’s song “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” hit the record charts.  By Christmas week it was the top selling record in the country.  It sold 2.5 million copies the first year, and eventually a total of 25 million, making it one of the bestselling records of all time.  Enjoy Gene’s performance of the classic song in the video below.

14th Annual Holiday Drive Kicks Off Wednesday

Dozens of volunteers and the entire staff of 93.7 102.3 KRAI and 55 Country radio, are in the final stages of prepping for the two day Holiday Drive.  The annual event will again be held in front of the west entrance of the Centennial Mall in Craig from 6am to 6pm both Wednesday and Thursday.  KRAI and 55 Country General Manger, Frank Hanel, is encouraging all area residents to “consider making a donation to the Holiday Drive, as 100% of all donations are passed directly through to help the organizations that assist our friends and neighbors in our community”.  Items requested include; new, unwrapped toys; gifts for senior citizens, non-perishable food and cash donations.  Whatever is collected will be distributed to; Christmas for Kids; Christmas for Seniors; Interfaith Food Bank and Advocated Crisis Support Services.  Visit this link were additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

Cowboy Christmas Fundraiser

Hundreds of people attended the Boys and Girls Club of Craig Cowboy Christmas last night.  The annual event was declared “quite a success”.  Cowboy Christmas is largest fundraiser of the year for the Boys and Girls Club of Craig.  The highlight of the event was the awarding of the Youth of the Year to Jose Duarte, who was visibly moved when he accepted the honor to two standing ovations.

At the Meeker girls shootout:
Soroco beat Hayden 48-28
Meeker downed Hayden 69-19
Meeker defeated Rangely 51-30
Hayden fell to Rangely 34-15
