New Year Starts In Jail For 366 Drivers

366 impaired drivers rang in the New Year in jail after being arrested for DUI by Colorado law enforcement. This is an increase over the 279 impaired drivers who were arrested over the New Years Eve DUI enforcement period last year. More than 10,000 drivers were arrested for DUI during 2017 Heat is On enforcement, a significant increase over the more than 7,000 drivers who were arrested in 2016. Intoxicated drivers were responsible for nearly one-third of traffic fatalities that occurred last year in Colorado. 226 people died in alcohol-related crashes in 2017, an increase from the 191 alcohol-involved fatalities that occurred in the previous year.
