New Mountain Bike Restrictions For Buffalo Pass

In order to address illegal mountain bike trails in the Buffalo Pass area near Steamboat, the U.S. Forest Service has issued a special order, prohibiting off-route bike riding in the area. The order goes into effect immediately and will cover the Soda Creek area to the north, Mt. Zirkel Wilderness to the east, North Fork of Fish Creek to the south and the Routt National Forest boundary to the west.  Signs and maps explaining the order have been placed at parking lots and mountain bike trail-heads in the area. The Forest Service is currently working with Steamboat to construct 30 miles of new trails in the Buffalo Pass area. However, the non authorized trails do not meet U.S Forest Service trail standards and are causing damage and erosion on the lands where they are located.
