Today is the beginning of National Police Week. Ceremonies will be held this week throughout the country. To honor the men and women of law enforcement that have made the ultimate sacrifice and given their lives in the line of duty the Colorado State Patrol has planned a moment of silence at 10am this morning on all CSP radio channels across the state in order to pay tribute to their fallen brothers and sisters. To surviving family members everywhere this is “our way of saying thank you for the opportunity to share your loved one in our noble profession. Please know that no matter where you live your loss will never be forgotten. Not in this lifetime or the next”. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
