The Moffat County Commissioners have decided to write their own letter, opposing any Monument designations in the county that don’t go through the proper public process. While President Obama’s plans are still hazy, there is rumor that he wants to make the Vermillion Basin a National Monument. The Northwest Colorado Resource Advisory Council of the BLM discussed the issue in their last meeting, but because it wasn’t an action item, they were not able to vote on sending their own letter. So the commissioners decided to send one of their own. The letter will be sent to Governor John Hickenlooper, U.S. Representative Scott Tipton, and Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall.
