A judge has ordered a mental competency review for the man accused of stabbing the former Rio Blanco County sheriff last year. Twenty-year-old Logan Piper has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and is to be evaluated by the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo. That’s according to an order issued Friday by 9th Judicial District Judge John Neiley. Piper allegedly stabbed and seriously injured Si Woodruff last August. The incident reportedly occurred outside Pioneers Medical Center in Meeker. Authorities say Woodruff was trying to break up an altercation when Piper’s relatives took him to the hospital for a mental issue. Piper is in the Rio Blanco County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
