Good news for marijuana supporters. So far, all compliance checks by the Marijuana Enforcement Division have shown that underage people are not getting their hands on marijuana through legal retail shops. About 20 checks have been conducted since January, when retail sales of the drug became legal. All checks have been in the Denver and Pueblo areas. The Division is working with local law enforcement, to set up stings at marijuana shops. An underage person will enter the shop and attempt to make a purchase. If a vendor sells to that person, they risk losing their license, spending some time in jail, and paying thousands of dollars in fines. The checks are similar to alcohol compliance checks at liquor and grocery stores.
