Police have determined the person responsible for the February break-in at the Craig Airgas was the same individual found deceased in a Vernal hotel room in March. Eagle County police were contacted by the family of 33-year-old Steve Fortin, after they discovered several Airgas cylinders while cleaning out his storage locker in the area. Police later determined the containers to be among those stolen from the Craig Airgas. Fortin’s family indicated that he had admitted to stealing nitrous oxide, all known as laughing gas, on several different occasions to help fuel his addiction to the drug, which he had apparently been addicted to since high school.. The situation surrounding Fortin’s death in March remains under investigation.
